The first phase of the Cold War lasted from 1946 to 1953.  Strains between the war time allies of the Soviets and the Americans had been growing during World War II WWII itself - over the second front, post war arrangements for Germany , and plans for Eastern Europe.
       In 1945 there were substantial conflicts on Germany , Poland and Iran. In March 1946 Sir Winston Churchill gave a voice to much wider sentiment in the “West” when Winston Churchill in the landmark speech given at a United States Campus address talked of an “Iron Curtain” running from the Baltic to the Adriatric.
     The term “Cold War” popularized by one of the Cold War critics , Walter Lippmann , came into common useage in the vernacular language .  In 1947 the Truman Doctrine announced to the politcal and non-political world alike that the U.S.A. declared it’s willingness to organize anti-communist forces in Greece and Turkey .   This American committment served to signa and promote U.S. support to potential allies anywhere and elsewhere were such support and aid was needed to curtail “Red “ “Communist” expansion.
